Mae Kuang Udom Thara Reservoir Inflow Augmentation Project
- Hits: 2488
RID had considered the Mae Kuang Udom Thara reservoir infow augmentation project development to enhance the stability of Mae Ngat Sombunchon reservoir and Mae Kuang Udom Thara dam, as well as to improve the water management in Mae Tang - Mae Ngat - Mae Kuang basins. Thus, the plan to augment water in Mae Kuang Udom Thara reservoir was set. The development guideline was divided into 2 phases; phase1 is the connection of distribution tunnel between Mae Ngat Sombunchon and Mae Kuang Udom Thara reservoirs in order to transfer water about 47.53 MCM/year from Mae Ngat Sombunchon reservoir in rainy season, when the water is surplus, to Mae Kuang Udom Thara reservoir; phase 2 is the distribution of water from Mae Tang River to Mae Ngat Sombunchon reservoir by constructing Mae Ta Man regulator to block Mae Tang River at Ban Mae Ta Man, Kued Chang sub-district, Mae Tang district, Chiang Mai province, and distribution tunnel from Mae Tang River to Mae Ngat Sombunchon dam. Mae Ta Man regulator will augment the inflow about 113.63 MCM/year to Mae Tang distribution tunnel in rainy season (July-November) to Mae Ngat Sombunchon reservoir by gravity when the water level at downstream is surplus. When it combines with discharge from Mae Ngat River, the water about 161.16 MCM/year will continue to Mae Kuang Udom Thara reservoir, resulting in irrigation benefits, water use support for different activities in the basin in the dry season and the improvement of flood mitigation measures in the rainy season.
